GPS navigation service ready for purchase on the BlackBerry Storm, the BlackBerry Curve 8330, the BlackBerry 8830 and the BlackBerry Pearl 8130
Las Vegas, NV - TeleNav, the largest wireless services navigation provider in North America, announced today that TeleNav GPS Navigator is one of the first applications now available on BlackBerry App World™. Research In Motion (RIM) announced the launch of BlackBerry App World, its on-device application store, today at the CTIA Wireless convention in Las Vegas.
"TeleNav GPS Navigator is a very popular application on BlackBerry smartphones," said Sal Dhanani, co-founder and senior director of marketing for TeleNav. "Now that it’s available for purchase on BlackBerry App World, customers have another convenient way to quickly sign up for the latest versions of our service directly from their BlackBerry smartphone."
As part of the BlackBerry App World launch, TeleNav is launching its latest version of TeleNav GPS Navigator which includes advanced speech recognition, traffic commute alerts and weather content.
TeleNav GPS navigation services are the most widely used mobile phone-based navigation services in North America and have received multiple awards. The service includes GPS-enabled turn-by-turn driving directions with full-color, 3D moving maps and voice commands with street names. If drivers miss a turn, TeleNav GPS Navigator will automatically re-route them. The service also includes traffic alerts with one-click rerouting as it proactively searches every five minutes for traffic congestion or incidents along drivers’ routes. In addition, TeleNav GPS Navigator provides access to more than 10 million business listings including gas prices and business reviews.
With the latest version of the service, customers can simply press one button and speak in the name of the business or the address, and TeleNav GPS Navigator will provide voice and on-screen turn-by-turn directions, allowing drivers to better keep their hands on the wheel and their focus on the road.
With the new traffic commute alerts, customers can now schedule daily SMS or email alerts for any route. At the requested times, TeleNav GPS Navigator will send an alert with a summary of current traffic conditions and delays for their routes, helping users decide when to get on the road in order to avoid traffic congestion.
For frequent travelers, TeleNav’s location-based weather feature provides current weather conditions as well as a seven-day forecast for their present location or for a destination of their choice in the U.S.
The new version of TeleNav GPS Navigator also integrates navigation capabilities tightly into BlackBerry smartphones so that users can launch the service directly from addresses in their email, address book or calendar, making navigation easier to start and use throughout the day.
Compatible with all TeleNav GPS Navigator versions, the new My TeleNav Internet browser plug-in for Internet Explorer®, Firefox® or Google™ toolbars provides individuals an easy way to send addresses to their phone from any Web page. Users simply highlight an address and click the My TeleNav button on their toolbar. The address will be automatically added to both their My TeleNav, pre-planning site and to TeleNav GPS Navigator on their mobile phone. All TeleNav users can download the free plug-in at.
TeleNav GPS Navigator is available immediately on BlackBerry App World for $99.99 for one year of unlimited service. It is available on the BlackBerry® Storm™, BlackBerry® Curve™ 8330, BlackBerry® Pearl™ 8130 and BlackBerry® 8830 smartphones.
Representatives from TeleNav will be available to answer questions and provide a demonstration of TeleNav GPS Navigator on BlackBerry smartphones later this evening at the CTIA Mobile Focus media event from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. in the Palace III Ballroom at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.
